Sound proof walls.
How to prevent ambient noise from penetrating your walls.

Sound proof mats, boards and insulation.
There are essentially 3 options for improving the sound proofing qualities of your walls.
Acoustic boards often consist of double or triple laminated panels made of a high density acoustic mineral board. They are also impregnated with a rubber membrane. Use these panels in place of standard plasterboard or over the outside of existing brick/block work. Insulation Acoustic mineral wool or quilt can be inserted into the cavity wall space. The higher quality insulation you use the better. Quilt will work better than acoustic wool and acoustic wool will work better than thermal insulationor rock wool. Mats You can use mats to increase the sound reducing properties of plasterboard, wood partitions, brick/blockwork and thin walls. The installation of mats is very simple. On walls you butt them together with the joints taped using acoustic tape. Sheets should be installed from the outside edge so that any cutting is done to the inner sheets where possible and the outside edges use the intact edges of the mats. Additional layers should be alternated so that no seams fall on top of each other. Mats need to be firmly fixed to the wall. Combined solution For best results a combination of the boards, mats and insulation will dramtically improve your sound reduction. |
